Day 37 - Tenerife - Cold cold cold...

Today the weather finally cleared up. So we headed out to Pico del Teide. Teide is the highest elevation in Spain and the volcano is still active. We took a cable car up to the top of the mountain up to 3555m high. There is another 200m to reach to the top but a special permit must be requested to climb to the top. We left our planning till last so we missed out on getting a special permit.

Anyway, it took us a while to line up for a ticket but luckily there was free wifi inside the building. Today is William and Kate's Royal wedding. So we ended up watching some videos from bbc app on Jess's iphone while we were lining up. We were all fascinated when we saw Kate's wedding dress. It was so beautiful. Even the lady standing behind us was peeking over to see the wedding!!

It was so cold when we got up to the top, it was around 1 degrees or so... windy and with what i wore, i was freezing!! I didn't bring a lot of clothes so i wore everything that i brought to the trip!! The guys were smart and had a proper wind proof jacket... need to invest into one of those!!

The views from the top was amazing!! We could see the clouds below us. That was how tall we were up the mountain!! There was a track that we could walk around the mountain... but for some reason it was quite difficult for me to walk around. I think the altitude of the mountain made me struggle a bit. I had trouble trying to breathe, felt so uncomfortable. So i decided to head back to the base and the others continued onwards to see the crater of one of volcanoes.

Icod de Los Vinos
Our next stop is 1000 year old tree. It took us ages to find this place and car parking too. The road in this town was so squashy and narrow!!

We were all looking forward to seeing the tree. But by the time we got there, we were disappointed. It is a big tree and it's amazing to think that this tree has been alive for 1000 years but at the end of the day, it is just a tree... hmm...

So we quickly took some photos and left.

By the time we finished visiting the tree, it was getting late so we decided to head back to the hotel. Warning guys... when you a tom tom or sat nav, make sure that you select "paved roads" to get back out of the mountains. The sat nav took us on amazing short cuts through the towns. There were a couple of times where we drove to a no-through road. And even worst... someone's backyard! OMG... all of us were so stressed out cuz we had to reverse out of the driveway on a slope and our freakin' car was not powerful at all!! We burnt a bit of the clutch but luckily we managed to get out and get back onto the usual curvy bends back to our hotel.

Crazy... just crazy... we were so glad to get out of there!!
